  Adult Ranking System (ORS)

Ontario Ranking System

ORS is a system of tracking results from Seniors level and Masters level sanctioned tournaments and is based on results compared to those of the opponents at any given senior or master level tournament, irrespective of the round in which the athlete is in.  Rankings from Junior tournaments are compiled separately.  Eligibility for 2006 Provincial Championships is based on standings as of September 2005 - your A, B, C, D or E rating (classification) (see attached start of season rankings, and explanation of ratings below).  Results from sanctioned tournaments only are entered into the ORS.

In 2005, your card number will have the letters ON before the number, to fall in line with the rest of the country.  If you are an existing member, the number will stay the same.  Returning members who have not played in an OBA sanctioned event for a number of years may find their number has changed.  New players in 2005-06 will be assigned a number.   Players are asked to use their ID number and to give their club when entering a tournament as this enables their points to be tracked accurately.  A second listing of a female player in the ORS, with (M) after their ID, indicates that player played in a men's event.

New for 2005-06, a separate ranking for Masters players.  This will appear as a separate document.   Players entering a Masters tournament for the first time in the season will be allocated their senior points as a base, then their points will be updated for each Masters tournament.  If a player enters an Open tournament, then their points will be updated on the Open ORS.  New players will be added directly to whichever ranking system applies.

Updates to the ranking system will be published following each tournament.  Events do have to be entered into ORS in the order in which they are played - a tournament returning results late holds up the whole system!
